Naked Flooring and The House of Discord
Part of the Utopia2016 project which celebrates the 500th anniversary of the publication of Sir Thomas More’s Utopia, The House of Discord exhibit examines the concept of utopia using the analogy of the housing market. Does the individual determine the perfect place to live? Are some Utopia’s more equal than others? Who is, and why are people are excluded from our ideal environments altogether?
A 45 minute art installation for three people at a time, The House of Discord gives visitors the chance to view three properties, presenting them with investment opportunities, chances to negotiate with their fellow prospectors and swapping keys which open doors for some, but not for others.
Naked Flooring is partnering with the creators of The House of Discord, supplying a roll of dark, charcoal coloured Sisal carpet for one of the properties. Experience the dizzy highs and vertiginous lows of the property market, condensed into a thrilling and thought-provoking exhibit in Somerset House.
The House of Discord art exhibit runs at Somerset House between 23rd August and 2nd October.
